Airborne geophysical survey completed at Bokan Mountain
(Vancouver, B.C.) Ucore Uranium Inc. (TSX-V: UCU) is pleased to report that a high sensitivity airborne geophysical survey has been completed at the Bokan Mountain uranium-rare earth element project in southeastern Alaska.
The combined radiometric and magnetic survey was completed by Precision GeoSurveys Inc. with a helicopter flying low-level grid lines at 100 meter spacings. A preliminary evaluation of uncorrected data shows that the Bokan Intrusive Complex can be readily identified by both the radiometric and magnetic data. All of the more than 30 known uranium occurrences are closely associated with anomalous radioactivity. In addition, the survey identified radioactive anomalies of a similar size and intensity in areas with no known mineralization, and these will be targeted for follow-up as weather conditions allow.
Of particular interest is a zone of high radiometric values extending for over two kilometers to the southeast of, and on strike with, the high grade I&L Zone. This radiometric anomaly coincides with a series of quartz veins and pegmatite dikes in a previously unexplored area of the property. Very high natural radioactivity identified to the west of the I&L zone coincides with the Bokan Intrusive Complex.
“Ucore is very encouraged by the size and intensity of the newly identified radiometric anomalies and their similarity to the anomalies at known U-bearing occurrences,” said Jim McKenzie, president and CEO. “We are now staking additional claims to increase our land holdings, and are excited about mobilizing field crews to investigate the anomalies. These positive first results from the geophysical survey significantly enhance our strategic plan to grow mineral assets at Bokan Mountain .”
The 2007 drill program has now been completed, and assays will be released when they are received and confirmed. Permitting for an expanded drill program in 2008 is now underway, with a plan to resume drilling in March of 2008.
